Ring the Legend of John Henry

The story revived the author’s passion towards the folk hero, John Henry, as a metaphor for hard work. Out of personal interest they embarked on a popular culture study that would involve visiting libraries and the African American Museum and Library in Oakland in order to discover historical and cultural backgrounds to John Henry and the Industrial Revolution. Inspired by childhood memories and a desire to instill pride and purpose in young readers, they crafted Ring: The Legend of John Henry to explain the necessity of hard work, passion dedication, and making a difference.

Ring the Legend of John Henry

This book is based on a story of Baltimore in the winter of 2006, the main characters Michael and his little brother being the two brothers who rush out to collect firewood for their small house. Look for no chopped wood and get some to make their own, in which they chop some. Brother Michael boasts and when Miles begins to defy him, he confidently cleaves a large log in one blow and gets an amused comment from their mother, who has been observing them from the doorstep. In this, they find some measure of satisfaction thrilling loudly through the freezing cold air as winners of that brief skirmish. Winter season’s snow brings a ‘feel good’ factor with this memorable snapshot of teamwork and family determination packed into a snowy day at work.
